On December 19, 2023, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong held institutional consultations with Director-General of the Northeast Asian Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Choi Yong-jun at the Shenzhen Qianhai International Convention Center, and had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of mutual interest and concern. Liu Jinsong reaffirmed China's solemn position on issues concerning China's core and major concerns, including those concerning Taiwan and maritime affairs, and reiterated China's policy and stance on issues related to the Korean Peninsula. Liu Jinsong also visited the Shenzhen Reform and Opening-up Exhibition Hall with Choi Yong-jun.
